Pokemon Red Cerulean Cave

This video shows the Cerulean Cave in Pokemon Red on the Game Boy. Otherwise known as the Unknown Dungeon, the cave is the bonus dungeon which opens after the player finishes the main story of the game by defeating the Elite Four. The cave is located north of Cerulean City and is accessible by surfing. A man will block the entrance until the Elite Four have been defeated.

The main prize of the cave is Mewtwo, pokemon number 150. He is massively overpowered, but largely irrevelant in the game since there is nothing else to do after capturing it. You must navigate the maze of the cave in order to find it at the very bottom. It is highly advised to use your master ball on Mewtwo as he is the hardest pokemon to capture in the game.

In the GBA remakes of Pokemon Red and Blue, there are additional Sevii Islands to visit and tasks to do. This makes Mewtwo more useful since he can be put in the player’s party and used.

The Cerulean Cave is changed significantly in the Yellow version of the game. This is one of the only major changes between Red, Blue, and Yellow.
